Excel Report Builder yields NO data

Posted on by 640

I build a report in Excel Report Builder. Publish to Report Library (or a file for that matter). i launch the report from the GP>Admin>other reports. the workshhet opens with a message at the top of the worksheet: Security Warning - Data Connections have been disabled. I click on the option and enable the connection, but still no data. the only change to the sheet is that the headings change to the actual table heading name but no data. i suspect i have an issue with excel security settings but cant figuer out where.Any Ideas?

thanks

Check the restrictions, or the data tables and their links.  Try a simple report first (one table, a few fields, no restrictions) and make that work.  Then add pieces one by one until data stops flowing.

    Hello Richard,

I did follow your instructions above, however you are correct in your suspicion that there may be something else keeping the data off the report. Any idea what I can go to troubleshoot from this point forward?

Yes, there is a security problem that is easy to fix but I suspect you have something else keeping data off your report.  Once you enable the data connections for this run, the data should appear.

To fix the security problem permanently...

Open Excel. Click on the Office Button to open the Office Menu.

Click Excel Options at the bottom of the menu to open the Excel Options window.

Select Trust Center in the left panel to show Trust Center options. Click on the Trust Center Settings button in the bottom right of the window.

In the Trust Center window, click on External Content in the left pane. In the right pane, click the Enable All Data Connections option in the Security Settings for Data Connections area.

Click OK to close the window. Click OK again to close the Excel Options window. The setting is retained and the warning message will not be displayed.

This is from our soon to be released book, Customizing GP with The Builders that covers SmartList Builder, Excel Report Builder, and the Navigation List Builder.  Watch for it on our web site mid January.

As for the data, once the security is fixed, check your restrictions and table relationships.  Post back what you find and we will try to help more.

    Merry Christmas to all.
