Read Receipts: CRM for Outlook?

I was wondering if it was at all possible to request a read receipt when sending email through CRM for outlook? Obviously when i send a message through the web application it sends the message through my outlook (which is set to always request a read reciept),  but it doesn't, i have seen the requestreadreceipt attribute but i can't edit or include it in the form?

Any ideas or will i have to use some other software to track my responses/opens etc?

Read receipts are a pretty poor way to get accurate tracking. It is far too easy for users to configure their email client (such as Outlook) to simply never send a read receipt, and for messaging administrators to block them as well, or to read messages in the reading pane without marking them as read at all. They are therefore unreliable at best, and downright misleading at worst.

I know I am not alone in finding them irritating - if you ask me for a read receipt it implies some level of mistrust, like you think I might want to deny receiving it later. One of the options in Outlook is to always ask the user if they want to send, so they do stand out a mile.

My vote - simply don't use them (with or without CRM). Using some other kind of tracking with invisible images would probably be less intrusive and more accurate (although again only if people download pictures in the first place).

    Hi Reece,

I second Adam's message below that read receipt is a bad way of tracking as many folks turn this off.  I also turn this off in my outlook.

In any case, this would be possible, but you would need a plugin in crm that modify the message before it goes to request a read receipt.

A much better method is a hiden image in teh email.  We wrote a blog on it:

and have a component that does this:
