Converting an entity record into a PDF

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

My users need to be able to print what they see on screen when going inside an account or a custom entity.

The problem is the entity form I'm looking to print has around 500 fields, and creating a word template would require too much time to prepare the template. What we are looking for is a solution that would take the form as it is and generate a PDF from it.

When using the "Print preview" button existing by default in Dynamics, the margins are all wrong, a lot of margin/padding is added creating a lot of white space and the overall layout is broken.

Any help or idea to get as close as possible to this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help,

Alexi Amat

    Hi Alexi,

What you are experiencing is a known issue. I am not sure if there are any third party ISV products that can provide you the functionality that you are looking for, but there are a couple of ways that you can achieve this by using CRM.

The first is create a report for the entity that you are trying to create a pdf from. You can use prefiltering to get it to work on the single records that you are trying to print.

If you are using CRM 2016 or above, you can use the new Document Generator which creates your documents using MS Word Open XML format. From there you can export to pdf.

Neither of these solutions are probably what you are looking for exactly, especially having 500 fields, but I don't think you have another way of achieving this.

    Good luck.
