Add-in initialization error, OnlineServices.dll

We have a client that is experiencing an add-in initialization error: "Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.OnlineServices.dll: Unable to get valid config from serialized string.  Client proxy can not be configured properly..."

They have had three users receive the error in the last two days.  Deleting their user out of GP activity and their login from the terminal server allows the users to log in, but I can't find a cause for the error.  I have seen a suggestion to remove Online Services or repair the GP install, but since the error is received intermittently and by different users on the same terminal server it doesn't seem like it could be a problem with the installation.

Thanks,

Marilyn

So one of the reasons to disable the OnLine services in the system is to ensure that this is where the error is generating from.

What I do, is copy the Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.OnlineServices.dll to a different location and reconnect to GP.  In addition I often remove the Online Services from the Dynamics Set file as well.  But you can not do one without the other - 1/2 of the step generates another error.  So, both or none.

Leave them out for a few days and see that the error infact is gone.  You will likely find the error to be related to some layer of security that is only hit when some service, feature, or advertisement is refreshed.

Sorry but this is a feature I take out of most of my installations.

Let me know if this helps.

Bill,  Can you tell me what functionality the OnlineServices.dll provides to GP?
