Hi,

I am running ax setup to install Data Import/Export services on SQL server, setup will proceed up to updates page and throws error as bellow.

"Microsoft Dynamics@ AX Setup
An unexpected exception occurred during Setup.
See the log File Files\MicrosoFt Dynamics
Logs\2017-07-13 Il-SS-S8\Dynamics5etupLog.txt For details."

I have checked in Dynamics Setup log where it says requested resources is in use

(Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700AA)

    Hi Vinod,

I have corrected your version tag as you have a question related to AX 2012. The current version is Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Can you check if the Data import export service is already running? Can you try to stop this service and then do the update?

RE: Unable to run AX setup.

    Dear Andre,

SQL servers are in cluster of two nodes, data import export service is installed on node 2, but node 2 is down because of hardware issue, so i am trying to install the service on node 1 and i am getting error while installation.

I have checked the setup on other servers and it's working fine,

I have found bellow event on SQL node 1 event viewer.

"Failed to Initialize WMI Core or Provider SubSystem or Event SubSystem with error number 0x800700aa. This could be due to a badly installed version of WMI, WMI repository upgrade failure, insufficient disk space or insufficient memory."

As i checked server is running with enough memory and Disk space.

Error in the event and in the DyanmicsetupLog is same (0x800700aa),  what above event specifies? Is this related to AX application setup issue?

Please suggest your thoughts on this.

    Thanks,

    Vinod Bhandari.

RE: Unable to run AX setup.

    Hi Vinod,

I really don't know what a WMI is about. Did you try to install the component with or without slipstreaming cumulative updates?

How is it possible that you have a cluster where the configuration was not the same?

Did you search on the internet for possible causes of the WMI related errors?

RE: Unable to run AX setup.

Windows Management Instruments and the COM components are related indeed. Can you open the Component Services for My Computer within the Computer Management node (or Windows Run command > comexp.msc)? I have seen some SQL installations where component services could not be accessed causing all sorts of problems with tools using WMI. It was a big struggle to get it fixed with our System engineers.

You might want to try to restart the server completely, see if it was in some sort of a suspended state due to another installation or a Windows update.

RE: Unable to run AX setup.

    Hi Andre,

We have used Slipstreaming to install AX, Yes as you said, in the clustered environment if one node fails the resources will be failed over to other node, I don't know what is wrong but we are investing the issue figure out what's wrong.

I will update you the status of the issue.

    Thank you for your suggestion

RE: Unable to run AX setup.

    Hi vilmos,

As we are facing issue in production environment, restarting server will be a challenge for us and we need proper downtime for that, But we will take your point into consideration and try restarting server to see whether it fixes the issue.

    Regards,

    Vinod Bhandari.

RE: Unable to run AX setup.

    Hi Vilmos,

Restarting SQL server resoles the issue, I am able to install Data Import / Export services on the server and it is working fine.

    Thank you.

    Vinod Bhandari
