Dynamics 365 databases moved, CRM *still* connects to old SQL server.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

We are running CRM2016/Dynamics 365 on premises.

The MSCRM_CONFIG and CompanyName_MSCRM databases are on SQL2104 and we moved them to SQL2016.

Ran the CRM Deployment Manager, disabled the organisation, edited the orginisation to connect to the SQL2016 server and re-enabled the org.

The CRM runs but as soon as the SQL2014 server is taken offline, the CRM stops working.

The SQL2014 is still in the CRM servers list with the SQL and Reports server roles.

Disabled and this time deleted the organisation.

Deleted all registry entries for the SQL2014

Imported the organisation from the SQL2016 server.

Same issue, CRM still connects to the old SQL2014.

Any idea how to get rid of the old SQL server?

Repaired the CRM, removed and reinstalled the SRS connector on the SQL2016 server, ran SQL2016 CU2, SRS update 1 and 2.

Out of ideas now.

Thanks

Have been struggling on same issue and found the solution! :)

The Deployment Manager Snap-in is reading setting from [MSCRM_CONFIG].[dbo].[Server] table.

So you can find the respective row and replace with your new server name.

Also make sure you've updated registry key to point to new server name here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM for key configdb
