Divide sub assembly / Product into two characteristics

Hi

I´m working with textiles, and could not get Dynamics textile vertical, so I have to use the 2012 AX and try to figure a way to do the next: I have yarns. these yarns come from a manufacture process that obligate us to divide them into two types of quality "but only one article and need to keep the same". Normally from a 100 meters yarn production I get 90m good quality and 10m in lower quality. then as next process is weave these yarns. This next fabric is woven from 90m vertical yarn and 10m from horizontal yarn but for vertical yarn I can only use good quality yarn and for horizontal yarn I can use both quality types. So sometimes if I only have good quality yarn I can weave fabric with no problem. but if I do not have enough good quality yarn I must plan for more yarn production.

Now I what I do is. If I have a stock of 100 yarns. I need to go to warehouse and check every day how many good quality and how many bad quality are they (physical labeled by production) so I can weave fabric or decide if need to produce first more yarn. because in AX level I still see only one stock.

So ¿How can I get them to be separated in article level Yarn so I can divide the good and bad quality inventory in some way? So I can then plan to produce Yarn and meet best spec that is to use 90m with good quality and 20m with bad quality yarn for the fabric.

thanks in advance for your comments.

Best regards

    You could use the Product dimensions. For example, enable the 'Configuration' dimension, and give it two values; 'Good' and 'Low'. You can stock 90m of the item with the configuration 'Good', and 10m with the configuration 'Low'. And if you need to see how much on the item you have in stock in total, you can do that too.

    You could use Formula's and Co-products for the Yarn production. Perhaps have a planning item for Yarn production, with two Co-products; the first item in 'Good' and 'Low' configurations. This allows you to report as finished both Good and Low quality Yarn from one production order.

    Probably best to try it in a test environment first!

    Are you already live on AX? If so, it might be difficult (like 'impossible' difficult) to change the setup of your existing items in this way (in particular, changing them to Co-products, and enabling the product dimension).

    Hi,  I will try this in test first. Should I create new Product o product master? not sure if the co-product characteristic is mandatory.   as I see only Product masters has the option for Product Dimensions or is it possible to do otherwise in non Product Master?}

    Best regards

    Hi Rodrigo,

    Sorry for the late reply. For testing product dimensions, you will need to create a Product Master type item. The 'Co-product' setting ('Production type') is separate, and can be set on both Product and Product Master type items.
