Automatic Assignment of Location Dimension Values to SKUs

Hi:

Let's say that you have a "Location" Dimension Code where 1 represents Location A and 5 is Location B.

Further, let's say that you use the "Create Stockkeeping Units" screen to create two SKUs for an inventory item based on these two Locations.

Is it possible for Business Central to automatically assign 1 to one SKU and 5 to the other SKU, instead of having to do so manually within each SKU?

Thanks!

John

I don't think you can do it without customisation.

Why not put the Location Dimension under your Location Card. The dimension will flow to the documents if you use that location.

    Hi John,

But why do you want to do that? The reason behind using consistent dimension values is to standardize your reporting and maintain consistency. If you assign different dimension values for the same item based on different locations, it will prevent you from making accurate, apples-to-apples comparisons between locations.

But it's achievable through customization, or there are some good apps available on AppSource.

    Thanks
    Ramesh

out-of-the-box Business Central doesn’t automatically assign dimensions to SKUs, so customization is needed.
Alternative Without Customization: Using Default Dimensions on Locations
This does not automatically assign dimensions to SKUs—it only applies dimensions when using Locations in documents.
If your goal is to track dimensions only at the transaction level, this method works without customization.
