Business Central Online is currently running on Application Version 22.3.58346.58475. The next update (currently being deployed) is a Minor Update, Application Version 22.4.59114.59220. Minor Updates are published monthly, major updates come out in Spring and Fall.
I have seen these Minor (and Major) Updates include new Permissions, that in some cases block Users from accessing Business Central. This happens in the case where the Customer is using User Defined Permissions. Base SYSTEM Permissions will always get updated during an update in Business Central Online. User Defined Permissions will never get updated during an update. While it is preferable to use only SYSTEM Permission Sets, this is not always possible due to our customers complex business requirements.
If you make a Permission Set for this it can be added before the Update happens. Use a Configuration Package to import these, without validation on the Object ID (the objects do not exist yet, prior to the update). Once imported the Permission Set can be applied to all Users through a User or Security Group. It is preferable to add these Permission Sets to an existing User Defined Permission Set that all Users have. Also, it is important to review the Objects included in the Update and ensure that all Users should be allowed to have them based on security requirements. The Permission Set sits and waits, and the Objects link up at update, when they exist. These are the new Objects coming out in the August 2023 Minor Update, Application Version 22.4.59114.59220:
