Upgrade to 2013: product key is not compatible with ...

When I upgraded to 2013 from 2011, in "System Check", show error: "The product key is not compatible with the installed version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM".

The product key is commercial, and even I used the trial key from 2013 download page, the same error.

In second "Issues that are resolved in Update Rollup 2":

When you use the Upgrade Wizard, an error message is shown with a red flag in the System Checks window: "The product key is not compatible with the installed version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM"

So, it looks like the rollup2 already fixed this issue.

But, the 2013 download page provide only RTM version, not integrade with rollup 2. And, in my case, when I installed 2013, I selected "Get updates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM", and it will show "not update needed".

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Form CRM 2013 document, I found solution to integrate rollup 2 to RTM version.

    1) download CRM 2013 and rollup 2.

    2) unzip rollup2, and found the .msp file

        technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699830%28v=crm.6%29.aspx

    3) use a xml file to indicate the location of rollup 2 msp file.

    4) use command line to install ms crm 2013:

    5) use SetupServer.exe /config  xmlfile.

The setupserver.exe will use rollup 2 file to do the installation, and the "product key is not compatible .." error will not happen again.

Or you can directly download the UR 2 for CRM 2013 from the following URL.

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

From this URL, you can download all the components related to UR 2 of CRM 2013. And installed then at your end.

For what its worth and if people still run into this problem it drove me nuts. What I had to do going from CRM 4 to CRM 2013 was this:

    1. Install CRM 2011 and import my CRM 4 database.

    2. Back up my newly imported CRM 2011 database

    3. uninstall CRM 2011

    4. Install CRM 2013

    5. Import my CRM 2011 database.

That is how I got from CRM 4 to CRM 2013. I never could get around the invalid product key error even with the registry hack. With a large database these steps take some time.

For my production upgrade, I am going to stage two environments, one being CRM 2011 and the other being 2013 so I can just copy by DB backups and do my imports one after the other.

    Hope this helps

    -Mike
