Planning Worksheet Query

Posted on by 38
We have run the planning worksheet thus far we have not been actioning any of the suggestions.

Currently I am reviewing the MPS/MRP latest worksheet and I keep coming across items that have no production orders or planning set up that would indicate that I need to purchase stock.

My theory on these items is that they may have been on a production order or had planning set up on them to hold stock.  A planning worksheet has been run and the requirement was imported for the item.  Then post the planning worksheet being run they have been cancelled the item off the production order and/or the planning requirement has been removed/amended.  I seem to recall that if we don't /action/ the requests on a planning worksheet they keep coming back.

Am I correct?  Or is there another reason we have these items still appearing on the plannning worksheet with no logical reqiurement?

    Planning Worksheet Query
    Hi @ Ben,

Hit the nail right on the head with that one.  Stock is in location and the production order is for another location. Our current procedures requires us to issue the items to the production order location and when the item are installed it is to be journalled off.  This way we can track what has been installed and when for traceablity purposes.

In regards to your SKU answer "I also note you don't have SKUs setup for your Item.  If you are in a single Location environment, you should use the "Components at Location" field in Manufacturing Setup set to your Location."  Below is the screens shot from the Manufacturing set up.  We are a one location company and the Components at Location matches our Location. Are you suggesting we should have this set to Yes?

I used the Order tracking on a EL-10604 that has nil stock, nil production orders and no planning set.  Yet the planning worksheet is asking me to procure 9.

In the production order for the FP000196 I do not see the EL-10604 item listed in the but I do see the CHN-0074 item listed.

When I go to the item card CHN-0074 item card there are no production orders.  So why is the EL-10604 in the production order when the CHN-0074 item is requested?

I appreciate your help. The company we have employed to help us with the BC aren't that flash hence why I am on these forums trying to work out what I am seeing.  Also I do not have the access levels I require. I am the procurement manager and can't run the planning worksheet.

BC creates item planning lines based on the demand within a certain time frame per filter as user runs the planning worksheet. If you run it for one month, BC will look at all demands for that period. What many user may not be aware is that the demand is very broad term, which may include forecasts, purchase order, production order components demand, , order policy on item card etc. You could use order tracking as suggested by Ben to trace where those lines come from. If there is no direct link between the lines and origin, it is likely from the planning fasttab on item card. It could be some of the ordering related fields have been filled out.

Demand and Supply are Location and Date specific.  Just because you have 14 in stock, if they are at a different Location than your Prod. Order the system will suggest you buy for the Prod. Order's Location.

Also, if you ignore or delete the suggestion, the next time you run the Calculate Plan you will see the same suggestion (assuming the demand data didn't change).

On your planning worksheet line for the Item, use the Line > "Order Tracking" action to view the reason why the suggestion is being made.  If you have date issues, such as an Order Date in the past, it can cause the Order Tracking to stop working.

I also note you don't have SKUs setup for your Item.  If you are in a single Location environment, you should use the "Components at Location" field in Manufacturing Setup set to your Location.  If you are in a multi-Location environment, leave the "Components at Location" blank and run the Create Stockkeeping Units to make SKU cards for your Item.

There are a few other options to help dial in the Planning Worksheet suggestions, so I would encourage you to reach out to your BC Partner for some guidance/training.

Hopefully this will help you track down the "why?" on your planning suggestions.  If this was helpful, please mark it as a Verified Answer to help other forum Users.

    Hi Valentin,

Here is a line from the MRP Planning Worksheet that I have a question on.

Here is the Item Card.  We have 14 in stock. 2 required for Production Orders. No Planning.

So why is the MRP asking me to purchase 1?

Can you post a screenshot of the Replenishment and Planning FastTab on the Item Card of these items?
