Installing Star TSP700II OPOS Drivers

Thanks!!! My 1st post, my 1st RMS Install...finding it incredibly no intuitive. So I am reaching out to the Forum for help..Please

-I am trying to add a StarMicronics POS Printer model TSP700II,

connected by USB with a Cash Drawer attached to the printer

-I am running RMS 2.0 on a WinXP Pro SP3

-This is my 1st experience with RMS and POS software. I do IT work for a living (nonPOS related). I am trying to help a nonprofit (ABBA House) as a friend...I am WAY over my head.

OK,

-Speaking to Microsoft RMS support, they tell me to use the OPOS drivers and NOT to install the Windows drivers.

-Went to Star Support and download every file that shows to include the OPOS driver; the new v2.0 and older legacy OPOS drivers.

-Installing the newest (v2.0); Using the Star Windows configuration utility it install the Windows drivers then I can setup the OPOS drivers and designate it as a USB device. I can then successfully test both the Printer and Drawer. I then register both devices but RMS tells me no OPOS drivers found.

SOOO I role my system back and try the older OPOS files from Star with do not include the Windows drivers, problem with these, USB is not in the Port list when I register them. Only LST ports. So I cannot complete this install..

I know this is allot but I wanted to be detailed in hopes I can get a detailed answer. I am so new to this; POS, RMS, OPOS etc. And I have spent HOURS and HOURS reading, searching and trying....please help me so I can move on to other things in my life :-)

    Welcome to the Forum.

FWIW, we sell Star and we never install the OPOS drivers.  In RMS' case, the only thing it does is to control the cash drawer opening and closing. It will remind you to close the drawer if left open too long, whoopie!

Just install the Windows driver, change the paper size to Receipt in the General | Preference button and on the Advanced tab, set the drawer to open on top of page and set the paper cut option to partial/partial cut

I'm not in front of a machine with RMS and and printer and am doing this from memory, but I should be close. If I missed anything, write back.

Here's what you need to do:

    1. Install the latest drivers as you did earlier.
    2. Open the StarPRNT Utility (Start menu -> All Programs -> StarMicronics -> Printer Software -> Printer Utility StarPRNT)
    3. Configure the OPOS objects and make sure you can test print and open the cash drawer. Do yourself a favor and give them both simple names. These names will be required in Store Operations Manager.

You will now need to configure Store Operations Manager.

    1. Open Store Operations Manager
    2. Click on Database, scroll down to registers and click on register list.
    3. Click on your preferred register (e.g. Register #1) then select properties
    4. In the menu that appears, click on Receipt Printer 1. Settings are as follows:

    Receipt Printing

    • Print Receipts automatically after each transaction
    Printer Type
    • OPOS
Under OPOS Device Name, you will provide the same name you specified earlier in the Printer Utility. Under Options, the journal receipts are optional. This will keep an electronic copy of any receipts that are printed. Receipt format should not be changed.
To configure a cash drawer, click on the tab labeled Cash Drawer 1. Simply enable the cash drawer for this register and specify the device name you gave to the cash drawer earlier in the Printer Utility.
You will then get a message saying the POS station must be restarted for changed to take effect. At this point close, Store Operations Manager and open Store Operations POS. Without doing anything, you can click on tender is the bottom right hand corner (alternatively F12) then click OK. If you've done everything correctly, your printer will print a sales receipt for a total of $0.00
    Congratulations, you've configured RMS!
FYI: I work for Star Micronics.

Oh, be sure to copy the printer's name and then enter it into RMS Register's properties

Thanks!!! I am reading all replies now and, after I finish this cup of coffee...give it a go. I will follow up.

Jeff, Thanks for taking the time to respond. I ended up going with the OPOS drivers only because that was what Microsoft RMS support recommended. If I have to go back to them for additional help, I do not want this to be an issue. Thanks again!!

    GuillermoCubero,

I followed your instructions and end the end, it worked. Strange thing is (but nt really in the PC world), I thought I had followed these same steps several times and never got it to work...but anyway, it is working.

I wasted way to much time by misreading Microsoft's instruction "you will want to use OPOS drivers and not Windows drivers". based on that I was thinking that I needed to install the OPOS drivers WITHOUT installing the Windows drivers. So I kept trying to avoid any windows drivers by loading legacy OPOS drivers, which never worked. The key to resolving this was to let Star software load the Windows drivers, use their utility to configure their OPOS drivers, then pick "OPOS" from withing RMS....

Tried this and when I get to the "Test" point in OPOS configuration, I get a popup "The test failed because one of the OPOS methods failed."

This is with a TSP650, USB.  Class driver seems to work fine. Other tests in the Printer config utility work fine.

    POSPrinter Control 1.13.0

    POSPrinter Service Object 1.13.3

In the OPOS menu, can you confirm if both the Control Object & the Service Object are checked? If not, they should be. Try the tests again afterwards.
