Forgotten Password (password recovery) edit to use Username field and not email address

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

I am in the process of migrating an organization from ADX Studio to Dynamics Portals and our previous version was configured to allow users to enter their username in the forgotten password form.

There are a few noticable differences between the URLs for the password recovery on ADX Portals and Dynamics Portals which makes me think this is related to the identity setup.  For example, the URL for password recovery in the old system is "/login/PasswordRecovery" and the new portal is "/Account/Login/ForgotPassword".  I've had a look through the old site and can't see any customization that created this.

We must have this again as our CRM contains many thousands of records and it was accepted that an email address could be on multiple records.  Please can someone advise on how to restore this functionality on the new Portal, or an alternative solution?  What options do I have?

Thanks everyone,

    Hi Steve,

We are in a similar situation where we need to create a custom forgot password page. Requirement is to have a user name for login, that is not the email address and we cannot use the out of the box forgot password for the portal?

Wanted to know how you ended up implementing your custom forgot password solution

    Thanks

Code shows that email field is the one out of the box.  A conversation with MS support confirmed this and that there is no other configuration available.

Any ideas on how to work around?  So far I have a plan to build an alternative page that generates 'password request' submissions, then a separate process that polls for new submissions, and generates a password, emails the user etc.  Not the best but it's all I have right now....

What version of ADX are you moving from?  If its older than v7, then you will probably want to do an upgrade to v7 portal before moving to online portals.  Also, there is a one time download for v8 portals, which is the online portal you are moving too.  You could use this to take a look at the code to see the changes.
