Debit Card Connection Error

Posted on by 10

We get the following error only when trying to run a debit card on one of three POS terminals:

Connection Error.  Unable to connect to remote host.  Unable to open certificate store or establish credentials,Num=0,Source=

Other two terminals work fine for credit card and debit card.  This one terminal works with credit card but not debit?

Anyone have this error or know how to fix it?

Thanks,

Paul

It says "cant connect to remote host", which I assume is it canot find the URL.   Did you try a antivirus scan?  I would suggest using Malwarebytes antivirus. It is my current running favorite and finds a lot of things the others miss.     Also check that the workstation internet settings are not set to use a proxy.

Does PIN pad's listing in Device Manager indicate same name and port as other POS lanes?

Are you using the OPOS driver included with RMS to define device name and port assignment?

Is OS the same on the problem PC?

    Hi Todd,

Yes, I tried that PINpad on another register and it worked.  Get same error with with the swapped PINpad so it's something to do with that lane/software/setup.  Tried changing port settings in the firewall also but no luck.  We are looking at options to replace RMS now.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Are you able to test this PINPad on one of the other registers to see if it works there?

Are you able to test one of the PINPads from one of the other registers, on this register, to see if it works.

This is 6 months from now; and you can continue using RMS after this date but technical support will not be available.

I would recommend checking with your partner in regard to what they may recommend as a replacement system after the extended support end date.

Thanks for your suggestion RMS Wizard.  No luck so far, still get same error.  RMS POS crashes after the error.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Hi Paul - stand alone payment terminals are no problem as they would not connect to RMS - you would just need to change the payment settings in RMS and remove the Mercury Pay app. I don't know on TLS.

On register that is working run Store Operations Administrator, File, Configuration, EDC tab, Advanced Options, and check settings under Bank and Merchant tabs, plus the Advanced button using Edit to view the full URLs.
Now go to register that is not working and replicate all settings. Close POS and log back in.

Connection error could also mean the port listed under Advanced button is not open for the debit gateway.

    RE: Debit Card Connection Error

    Hi Kevin,

Will this version of RMS POS (Version 2.0.2000) work with the newer pin pads (example VeriPhone VX520) that are stand alone credit card readers/pinpads?   Are there any updates that need to be made to the POS software (TLS 1.2) or does it support that already?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Hi Paul - do you happen to be a liquor store? We have a couple of techs that are familiar with RMS and Mercury but we only work with liquor stores.
