Configuration Package Excel Add In Not Working

(0) ShareShare

About a month ago I was using the configuration package to import data (customer, vendors, invoices, etc) which worked flawlessly. Today I am doing the same exact thing by exporting to excel the entire configuration package but when I open the excel file up the add-in for dynamics where you can refresh the data does not come up. If i go to add-in's and add it it wants to create a new connection and not using the existing one. I test this on the entire configuration file as well as one table with the same result. If I export to excel from say customers the excel add-in works correctly. I have to import 1000+ invoices and using the configuration package is the simplistic means. Any suggestions on what to look at to fix this. I even pull up an old file that at one time worked and now the add-in does not show on an old file either. Thanks.

    Hello Marty,

When you export using the Configuration Package window you do not see an Add-in on the side like you do when you use "edit in excel"... It has never worked this way.  You put your data in and then you go back to the 'Configuration Package' window in Financials and Import the excel file you've populated with data.  Once you've imported you can use the 'Apply Package' button to push the data into live.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Chris, yes when exporting the configuration package I received the add-in on the side. For me this was recently that it has changed to not display the add in. When it worked I would remove the read only columns or modify the columns as needed and then do as you mentioned and go import the package and validate.

Only the 'Edit in Excel' feature works in that way.  You can find the 'Edit in Excel' button at the top of most lists of data in Financials.  When you click this button it exports the list to Excel and shows an add-in on the side for Refresh and Publish and allows you to add\remove columns.  This is the only feature in Financials that works in this way.

Exporting a Configuration package does not work in this way.  When you export a Configuration Package you put your data in, and then import it back in from the 'Configuration Package' window where you exported from.

These are two different features and each has always worked this way.

If I do what you said it does not import the modified configuration package now. I can go and select export to excel - add the purchase orders to the spreadsheet - import from excel - validate package and it validates table 15 (GL/Account) and does not show any records for purchase orders.

Are you exporting all 26 tables?  If you do this every table will be on a different tab in the excel workbook.

I would recommend only exporting the tables you want to use.

    Do the following

    - Navigate to Configuration Packages

    - Click on DYNAMICS365 config package to go into it

    - Select the 'Purchase Header' line - (click the 3 dots so you can do 'Select More')

    - Make sure both 'Purchase Header' and 'Purchase Line' are selected

    - In the options at the top, go under the 'EXCEL' tab (Do not click 'Export to Excel' under the HOME tab)

    - Click 'Export to Excel' under the EXCEL tab

    - Confirm that the message says "2 tables have been selected.  Do you want to continue?"

    - Click 'Yes'

    - Fill in your Purchase Header and Line data

    - Import from Excel and Apply data - Fix errors

    Thanks,

    Chris
