CRM 2016 SP1 IFD external address not redirecting to CRM after ADFS Authentication - only affecting certain users

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone else is having or had this problem and knows the fix to it.

We have an on premises installation of CRM 2016 SP1 which we have IFD setup correctly and everything has been working fine without any problems both internally accessing crm and externally.

however yesterday 2 users started to experience problems when they try and access CRM using the external address.

They are presented with the ADFS authentication screen and they enter their username and password but then the redirection to CRM never works.

All that happens after attempting to log in, is the user is presented with the ADFS login screen again.

The strange thing is CRM does work when they try and use the internal address.

However the outlook client does not work for the same 2 users if we use either the internal or external address.

The CRM configuration wizard works for the users but then the CRM addon in outlook never loads the data. 

We have tried different PC, running different operating systems (windows 7 and windows 10), and with different Browsers and this has not worked

I have rebooted the CRM, SQL and Domain controllers and this has made no different.

We have changed the users password in AD and this has made no difference.

We have changed the users CRM username to another person not configured in CRM and then created a brand new profile and this has not worked.

We have tried changing the users security permissions again this has not worked.

The strange thing is it only currently affects 2 users. 

I have been through the event logs for the CRM/SQL/AD and cannot see anything out of the ordinary in their to provide me with any clues either.

So i am at a complete loss as to what the problem might be

    I have an update on this ticket if anyone else is facing a similar problem, it appears that this only happens after the user has changed their password.

    Another user experienced the problem after their password changed.

    I wonder if this is linked to an update
