Dynamics GP- Custom Mailing labels skipping vendors

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hello,

We wanted to print labels with Vendor names and eliminate the addresses.

We went into Tools-Customize-Report Writer
selected the Mailing Labels Three up format to Insert to Modified Reports
Double Click each of the fields (with the exception of Label Name) and select Invisible in Visibility field.

Not all vendors are printing on the labels.  They are active vendors and all have label names.

It appears it is vendors that don't have data in address1 or address2 that are not appearing.  All vendors have a Name, Short Name, and Check Name.

How can I troubleshoot why certain vendors aren't printing?

    Hi eknott,

You've stumbled onto one of the problems with the mailing labels. The first four fields float around depending on what you have filled out. If you have these four fields filled out:

    Addr Contact

    Label Name

    Addr 1

    Addr 2

Everything will show up as you expect.

If you are missing Addr 1, the other fields switch position. Here's what you'll get:

Addr Contact - will be blank

Label Name - will be the Contact

Addr 1 - will be Company Name

Addr 2 - will be Addr 2 (this was populated - I only took away Addr1)

    City/State/Zip are always fine.

If you are missing both Addr 1 and Addr 2, the other fields switch position. Here's what you'll get:

    Addr Contact - blank

    Label Name - blank

    Addr 1 - Contact

    Addr 2 - Company Name

In all of my examples, I elected to print the Address Contact. If I uncheck that box, and I don't have Addr1 or Addr2 filled out, here's what it looks like:

    Addr Contact - blank

    Label Name - blank

    Addr 1 - blank

    Addr 2 - Company Name

So, what I'm guessing is that nothing is getting skipped, it's just printing blank. You might be better off building your own Vendor Mailing list report from scratch instead of using the built-in one. Just as an aside, Address Line 3 will never print on the labels.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

You can put a small character like a period in the address 1 field for the vendors in question, if you want them to print without address information, for some purpose.

Or, you can use SmartLists to export the required vendors to Excel and then use a simple/flexible mail merge in Word to get the mailing labels you're looking for. The down side is, this is a multi-step process, the upside is you exercise complete control of the output.
