Async Process issue causes

(0) ShareShare

Hi, we're having some issues with our async process locking up sporadically and generally we have to reboot the server to get things running again. Looking at various forums, the culprit seems (for most people) to be the volume in the AsyncOperationBase database table and that cleaning it out will help so that's one of the things we're doing.

What I was wondering is if anyone had come across other causes for this process to get locked up and what was needed to resolve the issue?

Thanks

    Hi,

Cleaning up the Async Operation base table would be the best approach here. Deleting locked system jobs and completed jobs would improve the performance of Async processes.

Hi Rajesh thanks for your reply.

The async operation base table is the solution we're looking at, I was just wondering if there could be any other reason for the service to lock.

    Thanks again,

    James

    Hello,

Other reasons could be system running out of resources. Hard disk space and RAM being below the minimum requirement or execution of a Plug-in that runs asynchronously can also cause async service to stop if it crashes or is waiting for resources.

    Hi Rajesh,

following on from this, are there any effective ways of monitoring the processes to better manage the errors? I was considering having a stored procedure that could query the table every so often but that could possibly increase load which could then cause the issue..

    Many thanks

    James,

How did you eventually setup monitoring the system? How complex /large is your implementation in terms of # of users /# of interfaces.

    Hi Harihar,

so far we haven't found an accurate way of monitoring the system, no. The stored procedure I set up continued running successfully despite the system grinding to a halt.

We use database and server monitoring tools, none of which seem to flag anything when the system has locked up. for all intents and purposes, the system appears to be running fine to any check that we put in place, even when it isn't.

In terms of users we currently have 225 enabled users of the system. We also have about a dozen plug-ins that interact with the system and one major web service that links the system to a web ui.

    Thanks for your reply!

    James,

Thank you for your reply. Last question - how many servers do you have to handle the Asynchronous processes/requests.

    Thank you,

    Harihar
