Error: Illegal sign for update quantity in the inventory

Hi,

I am getting an error while posting a counting journal with negative values. For example, an item in the on-hand inventory says we have 10 in stock but we have only counted 8, it will give us a -2 quantity. And when we validate it we'll get the error below. But then if I put it on a new counting journal, it will post without any error. Is there somehow a fix to it to allow us to post on the same journal right away?

    Hi C Wee,

    A counting journal overwrites the previously recorded quantity.

    That is, if you had 10 on stock before then simply post 8 in your counting journal to get the correction incorporated.

    Counting journals post different from adjustment journals.

    Thanks for your reply. I do know that counting journal overrides the actual number on stock. I just want to know if there's something we can do to prevent this error coming up on the counting journal since AX allows us to post it anyway but only if we put in on a new counting journal.
