Set up: Volume based pricing for products

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Good morning,

I am working with a client who needs to set up volume based pricing for products on quantity with a graduated price per unit. For example:

A 11-25 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 139.86
B 26-50 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 113.28
C 51-100 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 111.90
D 101-250 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 97.90
E 251-500 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 95.11
F 501-1000 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 86.71
G 1001-2000 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 81.12
H 2001-5000 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 57.34
I 5001-10000 MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 50.36
J 10001-+ MFE Complete EP Threat Protect P:1BZ[P+] 46.15

OOB it looks like I have to create each product by quantity with its corresponding unit cost. Ideally we would want to pick the product, enter the quantity, and have the system determine the price per unit.

Have you seen this before and what was your solution?

Drew

I'm not doing bulk or lot products ergo discount list won't work. For example. I need to order 90 widgets. I have a graduated pricing model that says for quantity between 80 to 100 the price per unit should be $100. 101-120 the price should be $90 per unit. The quantity of the product determines the price per unit.

Why don‘t you use standard functionality called Discount List?

Settings -> Product Catalog -> Discount Lists

    Hi Drew,

I have been checking out if I can achieve this in Workflow to trigger on change of the 'Quantity' field. Was trying to achieve it using the 'Workflow Elements' developed by Aiden.

Tried with 'Sales-Add Line Item'  but it isn't working, I guess I'm missing something, let's just ask Aiden's help on this. He should be able to guide us better.

Aiden Kaskela: Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. You confirmed my assumption. I just need to check that there isn't an ISV solution before we bring the dev in-house

    Hi Drew Climer,

This functionality can be achieved only by developing a plug-in.

You need to write a Plugin on QuoteLineDetail/OrderLine/InvoiceLineDetail on post create/update, you can read the product, quantity and other required values and update the amount in the code. It looks something like this,

By design, the line item entities are not available in Workflow, so it is not the option here.

If you don't' want to change the qty, you can have multiple PriceListItems like the below and handle it.
