Hi Community,

Looking for resources which can guide me to understand Pros and Cons of upgrading a AX 2012 R2 customer to AX 2012 R3. Please suggest if there is a comparative study of new features in AX 2012 R3. Also from your knowledge of what's coming in R3 , suggest if you see any pros or cons of upgrade.

Regards,

Kumar

    Hi Kumar,

Some links that I've read before regarding AX2012 R3 features.

    blog.encorebusiness.com/new-features-microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-r3

    blogs.msdn.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-r3-a-preview.aspx

My 2 cents: To upgrade or not mostly depends on whether the customer need any new features in R3. How easy/hard it is to upgrade from R2 to R3 might not be known until R3 is out. Also, if the customer can wait, it might be a good idea to wait it out till some initial feedback from R3 customers are availabe.

    Kind regards,

    Dominic Lee

    Hi Kumar,

Like Dominic mentioned AX 2012 R3 has not been released yet. If you have access to Informationsource, you can search for "TECH2014" in the content. Many presentations are shared here as video and/or powerpoint presentations. So you can prepare yourself a bit.

For Informationsource you need to login with a Customersource or Partnersource account.

The R3 upgrade story is not published, and I suspect not complete as of the time of writing this. I expect the R3 upgrade to be less painful from R2 compared to RTM, and also if you're not heavily invested in the Retail expansion already.

R3 is expected in May, so by the end of summer 2014, we should have a good idea on how hard it is to upgrade. :-)
