I have 3 separate child support payments for one employee to setup in Florida. If there are not enough wages to cover all 3, then Florida says to reduce each one proportionately. Can the system be setup to accomplish this?

OK,
I remembered it being easier than this, but here's what you need to do.
You'll need to remove the sequencing and put them as just regularly sequenced deductions. You will not have any split methods.
Let's say you have 3 garnishments for the following $3000, $200 and $500.
The first thing you need to do is calculate what percentage each one is to the total amount of the garnishments. Here it's 81%, 5% and 14%.
Next, you need to know what the percentage maximum is, let's say it's 50%.
You need to multiply each of the above percentages by 50%. Here it's 40.5%, 2.5% and 7%.
Then, you need to set up a Max Deduction code for each of the percentages calculated in the previous step. One for FED and one for the state. So, we'll be setting up 6 Max Deduction codes. Put the percentage calculated in the previous step as the max percentage
Assign the codes to the deductions.
Viola, now the deductions will be pro-rata and won't exceed the maximums.

That's not how I think it should work - what's the point of having the splits if you can't use them?

Yes, the Pro-rata is exactly what I need - the same Pro-rata percentage reduction of each deduction amount. The child support deductions are all set as Fixed dollar amounts on the deduction setup, as proscribed by the court system.

I think I just remembered, Pro-rata is right if each deduction is supposed to be the same percentage of the attempted deduction. Also, for the deduction setup, do you have a percentage in the Garnishment Deduction Amount box?

I changed the split method to Even on all 3, and got the exact same calculation. None of the deductions were limited, and the Net wage was below the 50% amount.

Hmm...thinking about this now, it seems like there was something else you had to do. I remember fighting with this years ago. If you switch the split method to Even, what happens? I've got an appointment in 3 minutes here, but I'll play around with it this afternoon and come up with an answer for you. I know it can do this, I've had to do it before.

I have the 3 child support payments in the Employee Deduction Sequence window all with the same sequence number, and using the Pro-rata method. What is happening is that the system is now not limiting any of the child support payments. It seems to not be looking at the Garnishment Maximum Setup for either FED or FL (which happen to be the same - 50% of Net Wages).
Before I changed the 3 deductions to the same sequence number, it was limiting the first deduction (which is the largest). Now that all 3 have the same sequence number, it's reducing the wages below the Net Wages defined.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
