Publishing Views

Hi, I have a recurring situation which seems fairly straightforward to process, yet nothing seems to work.  A request comes in to have access to a view so as a sysadmin user, I go into Admin - Personalization - Personal Views, copy to user the view requested.  Nothing shows.  I then try publishing the view to a role the user has (of which other users are also part of that role that have the view) and try doing it that way, still no view.
What is a tried and true tested way of getting a simple view to show up for a user?

    Hi,

Can you tell us what form you have with what changes saved in a view? Is the view one of your personal views that needs to be copied or published? Or is it a view from another user?
When publishing the views to a security role, it can take several minutes before all views are copied to the users in the background.
Please share some more information or screenshots.

    Hi,

That sounds very weird. Let me ask you few questions in order to limit the source of the issue.

    • Does it happen to a specific user or to all users, or maybe to some users?
    • Does it happen to all forms or specific ones? If it happens to only specific ones, do you have any customizations on the form(s)?
    • Which version are you running? If it is a fairly new one I would consider raising a MS ticket.
    • Regarding you tries: When you added it to a user role, is the access for the user and role limited to a certain company?
    • Can the user you copied the view to have access to the form and the company?
    • Can the user create his\her own personalization? If not, then there is a setup that limits creating personalisation, therefore, copying wont work.

When copying a view, it seems that this is being done through a batch job (1) - have you checked if you have inactive batch jobs, or did you receive any message that this process was done?
Alternatively, have you tried exporting (2) and importing (3) views? You can find more information about that here:

    Kind regards, Adis

    Hi Andre,
To answer your questions, the latest one is in Inventory Management - Inquiries and Reports - Transactions and it adds the worker column which is not there by default.  It is found under personal views and other users have access to it.
Yes added the role for the user that it was deployed to thinking that would help and then published it out to the role.
Speaking of taking time, I did this yesterday but as of today it still does not show for the user.

It happens for all users.  I have yet to have a successful copy of views for anyone.  I am also a sysadmin as mentioned prior
It does happen to various forms - purchase reqs, inventory are the main ones
    10.0.44
We only have the one company
Yes.  I have also simulated her user in test and get the same result
I thought about that but there is a 'worker' column that was added and it does not show in the list of default fields.   Must be a customized view.  There is an assignment of inventory items to workers like uniforms, equipment, etc. thus the need for the column.

I was wondering about batch jobs and did a search for security and nothing came up.  Would you have an idea which batch job I should be looking for?

I do have the view exported as an xml but when I tried to import it, no error but the status bar didn't run.  Almost like it didn't like the file.  Left it with the default name and extension as it was exported.

When I try to import the view and select specific users, after browsing the list comes up empty (see the attached file)

Thanks for the provided information. The fact that no users are displayed when you import a view via xml file could be the main cause of your issue. Its just a guess, but I could imagine that when you copy a view to a user that during the copy process the user cant be found and nothing happens.

    I would do 2 things.

    • Debug the process of importing a view via xml to a specific user. I am sure that a developer can tell you why no users are displayed in that form
    • Create a MS ticket

    Kind regards, Adis

Thanks for marking my answer as verified. Could you give us some insights how you solved the issue or if you have solved it?

    Hi Adis,
There has not been a resolution to the problem.  Our developers are pretty busy with other projects right now and this has been an ongoing situation where Microsoft or our partner has not been able to fix the problem.
