How does record get a SRVRECTYPE = 0 in Field Service Module?

We have calls seemingly at random that alert the user that the service call they've attempted to bring up in the Service Call Entry/Update window does not exists.  Upon further investigation, the problem is that the call has a SRVRECTYPE = 0 in all of the tables.  How does this happen?
