Excel Add-in BC v14

Hi guys,

I'm a little bit confused with this subject. I have a Business Central v14 on-premise with windows authentication on and i want to use excel add-in to update data in BC. All of users have RTC client installed (with excell add-in) and all of them have an Office 2016 installed locally. Is it possible to use this add-in without connecting to Azure AD?

I found that also and not not sure if i know the difference between.

    Hello,

Let me try to answer. There are two Excel Add-Ins. One is the classic one, it is COM Add-in only working with OnPrem Excel. You can only refresh data, not update. You can recognize it being installed in the toolbar of Excel. It is called Dynamics NAV.

The Edit in Excel comes with later releases of Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 BC. It does only work with the WebClient and is called the Edit in Excel feature. Here you can perform an update from Excel to Dynamics NAV / Dynamics 365 BC.

The Edit in Excel feature does not work with Windows authentication. It does require Azure AD authentication (recommended) or NavUserPassword.

    Thanks.

It's not working that way. After modyfying data in Excel and press 'Refresh' its refreshing to the current data visible in Business Central. I guess it will not work like update in Excel and see results in BC. Despite that, thanks for help Thomas!

I'll be glad if someone resolve also the issue with updating data using excel

I can't find 'Update' button. Only Refresh in the Dynamics NAV ribbon

Probably yes, you can update data from Excel to BC, but i never tried this on BC version, just on nav2017.

You can try with Customer name, change the name from Excel and press 'Update'

thank you for fast reply. I have already install it, but is this add-in permit me to update data in Business Central using Excel? or this works only one way like "from BC to excel"?

    Hi,

when you install Business central client, you can manually install Excel add-in too. Otherwise you should go to control panel > uninstal program > business central > change > add or remove components > enable excel add in.

    pastedimage1598607204861v1.png

After that, restart your machine (just to be sure), open Excel and should find the section 'Dynamcs Nav'.

If you don't see the section, try to import the .vsto manually. Open Excel > Options > Add in components >  Manage > chose COM > GO... > there you should enable/import the .vsto from BC installation folde (see screen below)

Now if open a list in business central, for example Customer List, Print and send > microsoft excel > it will open Excel with linked list.
