User is unable to "Print to Screen" this is a new problem, nothing has changed in the workstation set-up or AX. They can print to Printer or File.   Other workstations are fine.

This just started happening yesterday.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Helen

Please describe the problem - "user is unable to print" may mean many things. For example, does he get an error? If so, what does the error says?

Does it happens with all reports?

You said that other workstations are fine. Does it mean that it's specific to a particular machine, therefore all users have this problem on this machine and it works fine for the same people on other machines?

What is your version of AX?

By the way, please be careful when selection the category. You picked one for Dynamics GP, which is a completely different product. (I'll fix it for you.)

Update: I noticed too late that this thread is a year old. It probably got on the top of the forum because there was a recent reply (possibly spam) that got deleted.

I am afraid someone may have right-clicked and choose hide, ending up with Personalization. That's the kind of feeling I am getting.

    Hi,

If the user can print to Printer and File but not to Screen, the issue is usually local to the workstation and related to the AX client rendering component or ActiveX controls. Here are the key checks:

✅ 1. Verify Print Destination Settings

    • In AX, go to File â–¸ Tools â–¸ Options â–¸ Print Management and confirm that Screen is enabled as a destination.

    • Try another report (e.g., Customer list) to confirm if the issue is report-specific or global.

    •

✅ 2. Check AX Client Components

    • The Print to Screen option uses the Report Viewer control (ActiveX or .NET depending on AX version).

    • If this control is missing or corrupted:

      • Reinstall the AX client or run Repair from Control Panel.

      • Ensure Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable is installed (AX 2012 often needs Report Viewer 2010).

    •

    ✅ 3. Browser/ActiveX Settings (AX 2009/2012)

    • If AX uses SSRS reports in a browser window, check Internet Explorer settings:

      • Enable ActiveX controls.

      • Add the AX AOS URL to Trusted Sites.

    • Clear browser cache and AX client cache (%localappdata%\Microsoft\Dynamics AX).

    •

    ✅ 4. Permissions

    • Confirm the user has Print to Screen rights in AX security.

    • Test with another user profile on the same machine to rule out profile corruption.

    •

    ✅ 5. Last Resort

    • If nothing changed in AX but the issue started yesterday, check for:

      • Windows updates that might have removed or blocked the Report Viewer component.

      • Antivirus or GPO changes that block ActiveX or .NET rendering.

    •

If this resolves the issue, please confirm on the thread so others can benefit.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Daniele
