Fixed Asset Training Question GP 10.0 vs. 2013

Posted on by 295

We are still using GP 10.0 and have only recently started using the fixed asset module.  I've read through the manual, but would still like to take an online training course.  Of course GP 10.0 no longer has mainstream support so all of the FA courses available are for GP 2013.  What are some of the biggest differences between the two versions, and would I benefit from the GP 2013 course and be able to apply the knowledge to our current version?  Of course I know there will be upgrades in the newer version, but I'm assuming some of the basics like posting depreciation to the GL from FA will be relatively the same.

Thanks!

Hello Sue, Yes the core functionality has not been changed but it has some notable additions from in GP2013 as mentioned in the below link:

One other feature which I can think of in GP2010 is 'Reporting Ledgers' where users can set-up the reporting Ledger per Book to BASE /  IFRS / LOCAL.

    Hope this helps.

Most of the basics are the same but, yes, there are enhancements.  CustomerSource or a good partner site should have a list of enhancements.  Try, for example, www.IntegratedBusinessGroup.com.  With the list of enhancements, you will know what to ignore in the 2013 training.

When you are ready to upgrade to 2013, you might want to get a copy of our book Version 2013 Unleashed that explains not just what was added but how to use each enhancement.
