Planning Worksheet - New Purchase message instead of reschedule

Please see attached file which shows you the set up of my item, also you can see the Item by event for my issue:

I am expecting to see a reschedule message for my purchase order which is due 31/1/2025.

Instead I get a new purchase for 7/1/2025.

The existing puchase order line is set up as "unlimited" in the planning flexibility.

I would have thought having Recheduling period at 7 weeks on the item card would cause the planning worksheet to reccomend a reschedule.

Even if creating a new message of ordering 500 off for delivery 7/1/2025 I find it strange it is not telling me to cancel the existing order.

Any help would be appreciated.
I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

From looking at your screenshot I would think that it could be the value in the dampener period that is effecting your calculation.  If you just had this field set as the 7W then I would assume that the system will always suggest a reschedule within that period.

However, you also have the dampener period set as 5W so again I am assuming that your demand falls within those 5W which then suggests that this field takes priority over the rescheduling field.

The dampener period is where you do NOT want the system to suggest a reschedule so I would suggest you remove the value in this field and try again.

    Hope that helps,
    Shauna

On further consultation with our partners it appears this relates to us posting a partial receipt against a PO line. Apparently once a partial receipt is posted (and possibly invoiced) MRP does not factor this PO line into it's calculation.

It's been a while since I worked with inventory planning, but let me try to guess the planning logic here.
As far as I can see, the initial projected inventory here is negative, so the action message must suggest an exception order in response to a safety stock warning. If I'm not mistaken, negative projected inventory should trigger a warning even if the item is not set up for reorder point planning. Exception orders are planned before considering any existing stock (therefore an existing order will not be rescheduled to satisfy exceptional demand) and are summed up only within the lot accumulation period in case of lot-for-lot planning (1 week in your case), and within one day for other planning methods.
When you look at the action message in the planning worksheet, does it show any messages in the "Untracked Planning Elements" factbox? It could give some more insight into the planning reasons.

Hopefully the following discussion will give you some hints as well.
