Can this be done in GP or by 3rd party?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We just expand our accounts from 1 segment (5 digits) to 2 segments (8 digits).  We'd like to transfer all transactions from old Inventory GL to a new one.  For example, an old GL account is 10000 and a new is 10001-100. Is it possible?

 Thanks.

Apology to all for the confusion.  I should have said expanded in past tense instead. Thank you all for your responses.  Especially, thank you in advance to Melissa for reaching out.

Ian, that's what I'm looking for, transferring the balance to new accounts.  Thanks!

There is a component of the Professional Services Tools Library, available from Microsoft, that is called Account Number Modifier that will do the trick.

Hi, one other possibility is to process a clearing transaction (Transactions >> Financial >> Clearing).

This will only transfer current year YTD Balances or Period Balances (and all the original data stays in the original account, also cannotbe used with Multi Currency)...but depending on your requirement, it might help.

You can do this without the tool.  I have changed many COA without the tool.  let me know if you would like more info or some assistance - msandrovich@njevity.com

    ThongD,

Microsoft offers tools in the Professional Services Toolbox that will perform this conversion.  There's also a 3rd party company called Corporate Renaissance Group that offers a similar product called 'Changer'.  Both work well.  Talk to your GP Partner about either of these tools.

    Good luck,

Hi ThongD, Yes, But from Microsoft it is not recommended to mess with GL data. You must think about some other solutions and for this purpose you people have Microsoft Certified Gold Partners. Otherwise you need any freelance to do the job for you. Shahzad Haider, ERP Administrator, mshahzadhaider@msn.com U.A.E.
