Field Service – Large Quantity RMA’s

We have a client using RMA and Depot Management in GP 2010 for processing returns and repairs. On RMA’s with larger quantities, customers have asked to receive the items back as they are repaired. From what I’ve noticed, GP does not handle partially closing an RMA line item. The temporary fix is to split it out into multiple lines, however we don't always know ahead of time what and how many will be partially shipped. Are there any other suggestions?

Along the same lines, the parts needed to repair a large quantity RMA are not always available immediately. So when that line item gets processed into a Work Order in Depot Management, parts are often on backorder. If I had some parts available for use and posted them against the WO, when the remaining parts do become available, there is no way to simply post more against the WO (see image). You get an error saying “The QTY Sold CANNOT be greater than the QTY Ordered – QTY Backordered.”

Running an Item Reconcile does not give the needed results. I’ve found that zeroing the quantity used, then zeroing the quantity ordered will toggle GP to get the correct available quantity. This is rather cumbersome and convoluted. I tested this in GP 2013 also, thinking this might have been fixed, but unfortunately have the same issue. Is anyone else experiencing this?
