Update of CUSTNMBR by stored procedure

I want to change my CUSTNMBR to a new one derived from sales force.  Is there a way to do this with a stored procedure to change one at a time inside a transaction maybe?  I don't want to have to use the tool and do each one by hand it would take a very very long time.

My only other option is to put the sales force account number into a field in the customer table RM00101 I think...

Any information greatly appreciated
Thanks
Scott Emick

You could use the customer number combiner and modifier tool window in GP, with a mail merge Dynamics GP macro (internet search for mail merge dynamics GP macro should bring up tutorials for this), to automate the process. This would solve the problem if it is the manual aspect of this is what you would find too time consuming.

If you have to, you could also try calling the stored procedures yourself, both these should be thoroughly tested in separate copy of your data before doing so on production environment.

    Stored Proc:

    Hi,

You want to change Customer in Masters alone or both in Masters and Transactions?

I can provide you Stored Procedure, once you provide more details.

    Thanks,

    Praveen

Thanks I want to change it in both; looking at the stored procedure Rmcustomermodifier it appears to handle all the related tables.

    Hi,

I strongly recommend you follow Tim Wappat's advise and use the Customer Number Modifier Combiner tools. It was developed to do exactly what you need. I'm not that smart, but I would NEVER modify an existing stored procedure where one already exists that will accomplish my objective.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Thanks I looked at the existing stored procedure and it seems pretty inclusive.  I'm going to do a test run on our test database which is a backup of production.

    Scott,

You may find problems if you use 3rd party tables in your DB, I've posted about that here:

I would recommend Leslie's advice that you follow my advice -of course....

    Tim.

Thanks I was wondering what the pre and post were.  I have encountered a similar problem too when someone was trying to run an item number change and we had a third party table included in the database that had an ITEMNMBR column.  The only third party tables we have t worry about are Nodus & Nodus Epay.  I'm going to contact them and see if they have anything already, if not I'll figure it out.

Thanks so much for your answers, I really appreciate your time.

    Scott
