NextGen RMS is going to be cloud based in 2014

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I guess I should stop the devel on rms, as it's going to be cloud based next year and all the loyalties, promotion modules etc that 3-rd parties wrote for it.

Finally cloud based is going to be nice for most people as automatic updates is a nice feature, although, I fear no addin's will be able to work unless only the HQ part is the cloud

    Gerald,

I moved from my current POS to RMS for the same reason. I don't want any of my store data stored at some unknown space where you don't have any idea who is not only looking but use the data for marketing (which is ofcourse money making deal for them but store owner loose) and before even you know competetion appears next to your location.

You really don't need a third party cloud since you can have your own cloud and you are the owner of the cloud. It is lot easier now to create and maintain your own cloud now a days.

I DO NOT support cloud based RMS. Do you really need a cloud if you have a HQ?? and if you need one make your own.

    Let's be clear.

NONE of my clients will bite on a cloud based RMS.

    NONE. There is no way.

Does this mean we should hone our programming skills for another program?

Anyone who has thought this is a good idea does not understand our client base and should

be chastised. Chastised and then fired. Chastised, tar and feathered, and then fired. and maybe neutered so they don't come up with any more stupid ideas.

By the way, I heard 2016.

So would you rely on the cloud when you have 20 people on line on a Friday after noon?

    LOL.

My larger clients all have pots line credit card back up.

Want your client base and inventory and financials on somebody else's computer?

    Not me.

    Certainly not my clients either.

    Hi HCF,

At this time we are waiting for an updated Statement of Direction.

Once that is available a link will be provided.

    2013...September...October...November...December.

Even acknowledgement of the RMS communities existence would be appreciated.

Microsoft, can you give us a clue on when you can tell us something?

    Hi.

I should suggest You wait for the Septemeber's SoD, when more information of the new product will be available. As far as I know, there will be an OnCloud option, but also You can have the product installed in your own environment...

    Regards, A.

That was just a comment. I have no information. I am simply stating that I am anti-cloud.

    Josh,

Where are you getting your information about the next gen RMS?

I haven't seen anything on the forums or on PartnerSource about it, and I don't think anything was announced at the partner conference a few weeks ago.

If your information is confidential or you are bound by a NDA, that's fine. I would just like some idea of when Microsoft is going to make a public announcement about this. I've got some clients who would greatly benefit from RMS with an "AX lite" back end. If their data is in the cloud, I don't think that would really bother me, as long as I can still get to it through RMS or SQL

I skeptical of having private information about my business and my customers on someone elses machine.  This cloud thing is going a bit too far.
