Missing fileupload control in VS 2022

Hello,

I have 2 development enviornments.

1st enviornment version info

2nd environment is UDE environment which I connect to from Visual Studio using power platform extension. version info. It's newer, in fact.

in the first environment I can create fileupload control without any problems on my custom by right click on the parent node -> new -> File upload

in the second UDE enviornment file upload control  isn't the list of available controls to create on the form and the list of available controls to create is much shorter compared to the 1st enviornment.

How to troubleshoot this? What can be the reason behind that? I installed power platform extension in VS 2022 and FO extension as well.

Thank you.

What is the obscured design pattern behind the context menu on environment 2?

The pattern could be blocking what controls you have available, try changing the pattern to custom then check the list again.

*edit* not this, I just tried it too. Missing model reference as Martin suggested maybe.

There is no any design pattern applied. It's unspecified and i tried custom as well. So this issue isn't related to this. Maybe it's somehow connected to UDE enviornment to which I connect remotely from VS using power platform tool? Not sure about this but it's the only thing that comes to my mind now.

There are many more controls missing, such as Adaptive card, Calendar, Color picker, Document Viewer and so on.

Does the model associated with the project has a reference to Application Foundation model?

yes it has as well as to application suit and application platform

when I set up my VS to work with UDE I followed this MS article

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/developer/unified-experience/finance-operations-install-config-tools#extract-system-metadata

I downloaded FO assets to my local machine. There is cross reference db .bak file

I have such config in my VS

I see that the .bak file downloaded by VS from UDE enviornemnt is more thatn 4GB in size

and my local DB SampleXRef is only 4 MB. The system should have restored it right which in fact didn't happen? Can this be the cause of the issue? Maybe I don't understand something? For UDE enviornment DB is stored in Azure, right? So pointing out some local DB in the config file what's the reason for doing this? The idea is to restore .bak file from UDE to local DB? for what purpose? Thanks.

I also tried to create a form in the standard model "fleet management" and check the list of available controls and it's also short one. Without file upload control and many other controls.

Can this issue be related to the fact that in my config I have different folders for my own metadata and for reference metadata?

No, I don't believe it may be the cause. You can develop without any cross-references at all, you'll just lose features like Find references in Visual Studio. But if you wish, you can restore the backup to be sure (or build references in Visual Studio). But it might suggests that there was a problem setting up your environment.

This cross reference DB which we point out in the VS metadat config file

it is used only for the cross references to work correctly?

(or build references in Visual Studio)

what do you mean here? "Build cross reference data" for all the models?

Can I do something else to understand why I have problem with the form control list in my VS?

    Thanks.

The cross-reference database is indeed used for cross references. It means information like that a method A is called from class B. Building cross reference for a model mean building it with either Build cross reference data or Build cross reference data enabled. But as I said, I don't think that it may be the cause of the problem with missing controls and therefore I don't recommend by any mean that you should invest your time in rebuilding them.

After double-checking the things discussed above, I'd look at the actual files in the reference metadata folder. If I see nothing wrong there, and because we suspect that the installation didn't happen correctly, I'd try setting the environment once more.

Setting the environment one more time you mean reinstall Visual Studio and reconnecting it to the UDE enviornment?

When I installed VS I remember that download finops dialog didn't appear automatically.

    Extension and metadata download dialog.

So I manually downloaded finops assets

Tools -> Download D365 FINOPS assets

and then manually installed FO extension and configured metadata configuration manually

I'd look at the actual files in the reference metadata folder. If I see nothing wrong there, and because we suspect that the installation didn't happen correctly"

What I should out my attention to in this folder? It contains xml files as exepcted.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't reinstall VS. I would begin with removing F&O configs and files and connecting again, later you could also reinstall the extension if needed, but I see no reason to reinstall VS as such.

The dialog isn't supposed to show on VS installation. It should happen when you connect to an UDE. It might suggest that the environment itself hasn't been set up correctly.

Regarding the checking of files, let's limit it to a single example, Verify that you have FileUpload.xml under \10.0.2428.115\PackagesLocalDirectory\ApplicationPlatform\ApplicationPlatform\AxClass.
