Does anyone have insight to best practices/ideas regarding a 100% virtualized - Multi Server deployment? Asking the Indian tech support people about concepts and ideas is exceedingly difficult.
1. One of my big questions is that we run everything on Server 2012 R2 and have moved forward with MS's recommendation of using "server cores" for windows server roles. I know that a "CRM server" does not support server core, however, If I have a virtual server or 2 that is only running the async role, can those two servers that only run async be converted to server core? I would like to know which sub-roles within CRM if they are the only thing running on that virtual server, can be run in server core mode?
2. What is the best allocation of memory and CPU Resources for Front End Machines, async only machines, other backend machines, and the deployment machine?
3. In various installation directions, there is directives to install "this server role" or "that required software" however what the documentation fails to tell you is which CRM install roles require which windows server roles or software applications. Some are easy like, IIS is installed on the Front End and Deployment servers, others are not. I think there needs to be a concerted effort to address organizations utilizing virtualization, clustering and multi-server deployments.
So in the end, is there anyone perhaps in the development team that can give me insight to these things?
