I realize that there is no native 1099 electronic filing function within GP (shame on them) and I am familiar with the Greenshades option as well as a couple of others. Has anyone use the SmartList Builder to try and create this file?

I also agree that 1099's appear to be an afterthought in GP. We used modified Smartlist to validate the 1099 data by adding the 1099 YTD field. However, I would not use that as an export source because that is not the same field that GP uses to print the form. That field comes from a different table(PM00204). We have used SQL queries to create CVS copies of 1099 data for data submission in the past. You can find those queries in other places online. But we have settled on W-2 mate because it works with the standard file output from the GP 1099 report. The encrypted PDF option is also pretty darn convenient when somebody calls or emails and says they need a copy of their 1099 immediately.
I agree that it is a disgrace that GP cannot produce an electronic file of 1099's when it is an IRS requirement. This is a big hole in their system as far as I am concerned. Let me know if SmartList Builder works. We purchase W2 Mate every year and it works pretty well.
