I am building a new pos terminal. I have installed SQL Express 2012 and now I'm installing RMS 2.0. I have searched for info on which service/feature packs to install and in what order, but the results appear to conflict. After installing 2.0, in what order do I install the sp's and fp's?
Thanks
Bill

As I mentioned before, you do NOT need to install all of the Service Packs in order to get up to the latest release of RMS.
You can install both Feature Pack 1 (FP1) and Cumulative Update 5 (CU5) on top of the based (RTM) version. This will prevent you from having to install all of the separate service packs.
You can obtain all Service Packs, Feature Packs, Cumulative Updates, and Hotfixes via the following CustomerSource web site:
https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/northamerica/RMSPOS/downloads/hot-fixes/20SPHF-V2
Also, the latest Hotfix (not yet updated on the cumulative page above) that has been published is Hotfix #41 via the following Knowledge Base article:
https://mbs2.microsoft.com/Knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b2949974
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Hola, la manera correcta como lo instalo siempre es la siguiente.
V2 SP1
V2 SP2
V2 SP3
V2 FP1
V2 SP4
V2 SP4 Refresh
Hotfix 24
V2 FP2
Hotfix 32
Hotfix 33
Hotfix 34
Hotfix 35
Hotfix 36
Hotfix 37
Sorry, we must have both been typing at the same time. I will try your links to the compatibility files. I had tried some that Jeff had posted and they were broken links.
Thanks
Bill
I may have to start over LOL. I installed a new SSD, loaded a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro SP1, then installed Sql server 2012 express I downloaded a 64bit version, but it installed a 32 bit version. I then installed RMS 2.0, sp1-sp3, FP1,SP4,FP2. But I cannot connect to the database. I get the 55555 error when I try to connect.
Thanks
Bill

Regarding Backward Compatibility, yes you definitely need it. You can follow these instructions to install the SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility (which is what you need for 2008 and above):
You must install the backward compatibility on every computer that is using RMS.
Or even better yet, just go from the base (RTM) version straight up to CU5.
FYI, in addition to CU5 FP1 was also able to be upgraded from RTM.
I hope this helps.
Thanks, I installed them in that order. Now I get a 55555 severity 16 error when I try to connect to a database. I've read posts about the same error requiring the Backwards compatibility package for SQL Express 2005, but my understanding is that there is no such package for 2012 Express.
Do in this order
1.Retail2.0 - SP1
2.Retail2.0 - SP2
3.Retail2.0 - SP3
4.Retail2.0-KB982484 FP 1
5.Retail2.0-KB2468453 -4
6.Retail2.0-KB2727850-FP 2
