why in AX general ledger journal with project type only allows categories type expense why?

Hi,
Project categories acts as link between the Project Module and General Ledger. So if you are posting any transactions on the GJ with Project then you have to select the Project Category.

That is because only expenses can be recorded in 'ordinary' GL journals.
Project item transactions cannot be recorded in a GL journals. Even if you don't work with the project module, you can't post and consume an item through a GL journal.
Fee transactions also cannot be recorded in a GL journal because the ledger posting for fees is created at the time the invoice is created and not at the time the fees are recorded. This cannot be handled in an ordinary GL Journal.
For project hours things are similar. Theoretically, you could specify the hour price, quantity and so on that is needed for making a posting. However, the project module also allows you recording hours without making a ledger posting (=> by selecting the never ledger project posting integration in the project group form) or allows you postponing the ledger posting until the Project invoice is created (=> by selecting the no ledger project posting integration in the project group form)

As suggested by Ludwig and Narasimha, I'll add to their points that General ledger journals can leverage only project categories of expense type as that's one the way to post expenses on your project the other way being expense journal in project module which is also on similar lines. This impact only Project sub ledger and GL.
Other projects transactions leverages other screens and other sub ledgers which cannot be impacted via a general journal.
