Uninstalling Support Debugging Tool

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

I am trying to uninstall the Support Debugging Tool as it will not uninstall from my terminal server. when I open the debugger (ctrl+D), I then select options-->about support debugging tool --> uninstall. Afterwards, a dialog box pops up that askes me if I would like to "Do you also want to remove Support Debugging Tool from the Launch File?"? I then select yes which then leads me to another dialog box that saws "Support Debugging Tool has been removed from the Launch File. You must now close Microsoft Dynamics GP, Please select OK to exit". Pressing ok makes the GP application disappear, but when you reopen the application, Support Debugging Tool is still installed.

Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi Mike,

    Welcome to the Forum!

I feel certain David Musgrave (creator of the tool) will give you more instruction, but to get started why don't you remove it from the Dynamics.set file?

You would need to reduce the number at the top of the file by 1

    Remove the two lines:
    5261
    Support Debugging Tool

    Remove the three lines:

    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP/DEBUGGER.DIC
    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP/Data/DEBU_FRM.DIC
    :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP/Data/DEBU_RPT.DIC

According to the Resource Descriptions, the following 6 tables are also part of the tool:
    TRIGGERS
    ConfigCh
    OPENFORM
    MBSDBGTG
    DexExec
    SQLExec

I do not think you need to do anything with the tables, removing it from the .set file should do it. There may be many entries in your Dex.ini file relating to the tool, but I do not think these will get in your way either. The Dex.ini just ignores anything it does not understand.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi Mike

Note: You do not need to remove an old build to install a new build. Just install the chunk file over the top.

To uninstall, you just need to follow the instructions on the Support Debugging Tool FAQ.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/developingfordynamicsgp/archive/2009/08/05/installing-the-support-debugging-tool-for-microsoft-dynamics-gp-faq.aspx

Basically, the tool has an un-install button on the About Support Debugging Tool window. It removes any table changes it made, dex.ini settings it added and then removes itself from the Dynamics.set launch file.

I just tested this on my system and it removed itself from the Dynamics.set launch file with no issues.

There are NO tables created at the SQL level so you do not need to remove them. All the settings data is stored in the Debugger.xml file which will be in the Data folder or the location you specified in the Dex.ini Settings window.

Can you open Notepad and drag the Dynamics.set into the window and make sure you can save the file.  If it is marked as read only, the SDT will not be able to write to it.

Regardless, you can always just edit the Dynamics.set manually, see KB 872087 (link below), or use Leslie's steps.

How to disable third-party products in the Dynamics.set file in Microsoft Dynamics GP
    https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;872087

To get the full benefits of the SDT, it needs to be installed on all workstations and servers for a system with an administrator specified shared location for the setup file.  The manual for build 13 explains how to set this up.

    Hope this helps.

In working with Microsoft on an issue they had me install the debugger. I would now like to uninstall it since it keeps a scriptlogging window keeps popping up when I try to make edits in the Admin - User Access window.

I edited the DYNAMICS.SET file, but now when I log in to GP I get a Dex Runtime error "Unable to open dictionary :C:Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Dynamics/GP2010/DEGUGGER.DIC." And this same message for DEBU_FRM.DIC and DEBU_RPT.DIC. These are all for the lines I removed from the DYNAMICS.SET file. Is there another piece I need to remove?

    Hi Theresa

Firstly, the Support Debugging Tool offers many features that would make it worth leaving installed.

If the SDT is causing a window to pop up, the triggers that are making that happen can be disabled or deleted easily.

To edit triggers use the Setup Automatic Debugger Mode option (Advanced Mode must be enabled from Dex.ini settings window).

To remove the tool, it had its own uninstall feature from the About Support Debugging Tool window.

At this stage it looks like you have corrupted your Dynamics.set file. Do you have a backup of it before you made changes? It must still have references to the Support Debugging Tool dictionaries.

To see why you should leave the tool installed see this blog post:
