RMS for small chain? Rentals add on?

I have used RMS in the past (about 7 years ago) and found it to be a decent tool for the single store I was managing. Now, I'm with a small chain of 5 stores and am looking for a robust solution that will drive sales, sales follow up (CRM), inventory (purchasing and stocking levels), accounts receivable, and ecommerce sales. And of course, it will need to talk to an accounting package for GL, AR/AP and cash management.

I'm a little surprised that the current version is designated 2009. Is Microsoft maintaining and enhancing this app? Or is it dead-ended?

If you have experience using RMS in a small chain environment, or have been successful in integrating either a rental add on, or live ecommerce integration, can you share your experience with me? Thanks, Bruce.Kaplan@trewaudio.com

also make sure you don't need inventory to be precise... a lot of transfers get lost, and IMHO the DB structure is a patch after patch of patches....

most tables don't have indexes and any 3rd party addon's can make things worst... we have a script to run every day to see Missing in action transfers, in which case we submit a SQL query to DB to recreate the demand of transfer creation and then issue  401 to request upload of data....

I think it could be related to transfer numbers, as we do use mobile manager for wharehouse transfers and they tend to add extra digits... EX: you need 8 digits + in numbers.. 80001231 etc.. and third party could use AG123010 so maybe without indexing it can mess things up depending on how RMS pulls last known number... anyhow I would choose AX retail if I could restart it all...

The microsoft dynamics 2009 product is not a multi store or chain store product and wont fit your needs.  POS 2009 is still supported but not sure about any future versions on that line.

You could also check out AX for Retail.  has more for Enterprise reporting but I dont handle that so not sure if it will fit your needs.

    Hi Bruce.

    OK, answers to your questions:

    - Microsoft is updating the product, latest hotfix is #37 for example... please check the MSFT Support blog on this page, Gregg Kosel is doing a great job on the news and updates... Officialy the product is on the road map at least until 2016, with support from Microsoft until 2021... I think the best would be if this is confirmed by some of the guys from Microsoft... Also, we are waiting for the v3.0 that should be this year..., but I'm afraid the new version will be different from the actual, as it's AX based... We will see...

    - RMS is perfect for small chains, I would say up to 50 stores, but ideal for 10 to 20 stores...

    - No rental functionality I think, so You may use some workarounds or there are partners who have rental add-ons

    - E-commerce integration, there are several solutions... My self have implemented NitroSell Commerce, I can only recomend the add-on, contact Maria at maria.keech@nitrosell.com

If You need more information, don't hesitate to contact me directly antonijo_todorovik@hotmail.com  Anything I can help with...

    Regards, A.
