Sending Email to Customer When Lead Is Created

I’m trying to configure a real-time workflow in Microsoft Dynamics CRM to automatically send an email when a new Lead is created with a specific Topic .

Here’s the problem:

The standard emailaddress1 field exists on the Lead entity and is placed on the form.

However, in the Send Email step of the workflow, the emailaddress1 field does not appear in the Form Assistant.

Attempting to manually type {Lead(Lead)}.emailaddress1 in the To field results in an error (red underline).

The Lead entity in our environment does not contain Customer, Contact, or Parent fields that could be used instead.

As a result, when the workflow runs, it fails with the following error:

"The e-mail must have at least one recipient before it can be sent"

Could you please advise how I can dynamically set the Lead's own email address (emailaddress1) as the recipient in the workflow email step?

Looking forward to your guidance.

    Hi,

The "To", "Cc", and "Bcc" fields in a Dynamics 365 workflow email require an Activity Party, which means you cannot directly insert a plain email address string. Instead, you must reference a record (such as a Lead, Contact, User, etc.) that contains an email address.
If you want to send the email to the Lead’s email address, follow these steps:
    1. In the Form Assistant, select the Lead entity.
    2. Add the Lead itself to the "To" field.
    3. Dynamics 365 will automatically use the Email field from the Lead record when sending the email.
    Please follow below screenshot,

This ensures that the email is correctly delivered using the Lead’s primary email address.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

You can’t use emailaddress1 directly in a CRM workflow’s “To” field because it’s a text field, not a lookup. CRM expects a party-type (like Contact or Lead lookup).

In Dynamics 365 workflows, the "To", "Cc", and "Bcc" fields in an email step require an Activity Party—you cannot use a plain email address string. Instead, you must reference a record (like a Lead, Contact, or User) that contains an email address.
To send an email to the Lead's email address:
    • In the Form Assistant, select the Lead entity.
    • Add the Lead itself to the "To" field.
Dynamics 365 will then automatically use the Lead’s Email field when sending the email.

    Thanks
