Greetings...

I want to sale a item(main item) which include assembly BOM (sub item 1 and sub item-2) & Item tracking (Code : SNALL)

with warehouse process (with Directed Put-Away and Pick).

Here, I'm trying to select serial numbers for sub items in assembly order with warehouse process, but system throws error.

Steps I followed  for this process

 1. Create Sales order for main item(which include Assembly BOM of sub item 1 & sub item-2).

After selecting Item, Warehouse and quantity in sales order Qty. to Assemble and Reserved quantity auto populated by system.

 2. In assembly order trying to select serial number for sub item 1.

But System throws error message : "You cannot select more than 0 units."

I have the same question (0)

Item Serial number not select in Assembly order with warehouse setup(Sales Order).

    Hi there,

Thanks for the detailed walkthrough and screenshots—this really helps in understanding the issue. You're encountering a common challenge when working with assembly orders, serial number tracking, and advanced warehouse setups.

    Summary of the Issue:

    • You’re creating a Sales Order for an item with an Assembly BOM.
    • The system correctly populates the Qty. to Assemble to Order.
    • You attempt to assign serial numbers to sub-items via the Item Tracking Lines.
    • However, when trying to select entries, the system throws the error:
"You cannot select more than 0 units."

    Root Cause:

This error typically occurs when the available quantity in the bin or location is zero, or when the system cannot reserve inventory due to warehouse configuration constraints.

    Recommendations:

    1. Check Bin Content and Availability
In the "Select Entries" screen, verify that the Available Quantity is greater than zero for the selected serial numbers. If it's zero, the system will block selection.

    2. Location Setup
If your location uses Directed Put-away and Pick, Business Central expects inventory movements to be handled via warehouse documents (e.g., picks, put-aways). This can interfere with direct serial number assignment in assembly orders.

    3. Use of Warehouse Bins
Ensure that the bin content is correctly updated and that the items are physically and logically available in the expected bin. If not, consider adjusting inventory or using a warehouse journal to correct the bin content.

    4. Assembly Order Configuration
Try creating the assembly order manually and assigning the serial numbers before posting. This gives you more control over the process and may bypass the automated restrictions.

    5. Reservation Entries
Use the Reservation Entries page to manually reserve the serial numbers for the sub-items before attempting to assign them in the assembly order.

    6. Custom Flow or Extension
If this is a recurring scenario, you might consider a custom extension that allows more flexible handling of serial numbers in assembly orders with warehouse integration.

    Suggested Workaround:

If possible, test the same flow in a location without advanced warehouse features (i.e., no bins or directed put-away/pick). This can help isolate whether the issue is due to warehouse configuration or item tracking setup.

Let me know if this helps!

Item Serial number not select in Assembly order with warehouse setup(Sales Order).
    Hi,
You're trying to manually assign serial numbers to sub-items in an Assembly Order that originates from a Sales Order, and the system is warehouse-enabled with Directed Put-away and Pick.
When Directed Put-away and Pick is enabled for a location (like ADVANCE), Business Central uses advanced warehouse processes. This means:
    • Inventory movements are handled by warehouse documents (like Picks and Shipments),
    • You cannot manually assign serial numbers in the Assembly Order,
    • The system requires you to assign serial numbers during the Warehouse Pick stage.
     Correct Process (Warehouse-Enabled Locations)
    Step-by-step fix:
    1. Release the Assembly Order (Status = "Released")
    2.  Create a Warehouse Pick:
      • Go to Warehouse Picks > New Pick
      • Or use Create Pick from the Assembly Order
    3. In the Pick Lines, open the Item Tracking Lines
      • Select available serial numbers from inventory
      • Assign the serial number(s) properly
    4. Register the Warehouse Pick
      • This posts the consumption and assigns the serials
    5. Return to the Assembly Order
      • The serial numbers are now linked and consumption is ready
If the warehouse process is too complex for simple assembly:
    • Use a different Location Code (without Directed Put-away & Pick)

Item Serial number not select in Assembly order with warehouse setup(Sales Order).
This issue occurs because when using Directed Put-away and Pick, Business Central expects serial numbers to be handled through warehouse documents, not directly on the assembly order.

🔧 Workaround: You’ll need to create a warehouse pick for the components, and assign serial numbers during the picking process, not manually on the assembly order.

✅ This ensures proper tracking and reservation based on WMS flows.
