"Processes are currently being run that cannot be deleted" and items piling up in Process Monitor

Hi guys, we're trying to print items like invoices and trial balances and nothing is happening at all. I go to close out of the system and i receive the error message "processes are currently being run that cannot be deleted these processes must be run to completion before you exit". I then check the process monitor and it is full of all of our invoices and reports that won't go through.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm worried it will turn into a big issue.

Thanks!

First part of the question - what is stopping the reports from printing?  That is the problem you need to solve right away.

I know this is a reach but, when you look at Task Manager on the computer that you are tring to print reports / post from / do you see rundll32.exe in the list of applications ?

Reason I ask is we have this problem happen on the odd time that something the printer service does not like passes through.  So we simply open Task Manager, highlight rundll32 and click on 'end process'

As soon as we do this the stuck print jobs all start to print.

Lets start here and see if it 'clears the log jam' before going onto to kill processes in GP that may not be in need of killing at this time.

Post back after having a look at this.

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for the answer. I went ahead and ran Task Manager but to no avail. rundll32.exe wasn't in the list of applications. If this helps, I took a picture of the processes that are sticking in the system.

So rundll32 is not present in the Task Manager - that is too bad - quick fix often for this type of situation.

Kimberly, one of the line items at the top of the page is bothering me - the Update User Date - I can only make that appear on my system when I look at the Timed Queue.

Tell me more about this configuration.  Is this running on a single user workstation or is this running on a Terminal / Citrix client?

Are there any open GP Windows hidden at this time from the user?  Look behind open application screens and see if any are hidding behind.

Last question - but maybe should have been first - what version of GP are we working with?

2015 GP, running on SQL server 2014, Windows Server 2012 R2 -On Premise. The problem is only occurring for one user's workstation though. There isn't any windows hidden as far as i can tell. All she did was run some payments yesterday, there wasn't any major changes on the system or etc... very strange.

If you're printing to the screen, and still have a screen output open, none of the other print jobs will run. You need to close the screen output each time it appears, before the next print job will run.

Hi Lyn, Nope, no screen outputs open.

Darn it, why can't it just be the easy fix? :-)

Lyn thanks for the suggestion on the open print window.

Kimberly, is there a chance that at some point this system crashed GP without crashing the computer?  Did the application close and allow the user to reconnect without issue?

Secondly, what happens if you try to 'change user' not shut down GP from this workstation?

I wish Lyn! I really don't think so Bill. Nothing seems to have crashed, and we can't close GP due to the error message. I'll try to change users as soon as i'm back to the office. I'll update you guys then. Thanks for the help.

As long as it is truly just print jobs (as opposed to posting transactions), I would recommend that you end task on the dynamics.exe process, and then reboot the server. Then, check the invoice printing again to see if it continues to be a problem.
