Expense the cost of goods used in BOM at the time of picking

Posted on by

We are needing the cost of the raw goods consumed in our production order for a BOM item to be expensed to a particular GL account at the time of picking. I've attempted several thing with no success - when the production order has ended the inventory goes in with a financial cost.

A little insight on the company: we sell cut yardage fabric and interior decorating hardware. We are creating our own sampling items such as fandecks and hanger samples. It's when the production order is started - generate a picking list for our warehouse to know which raw goods we would like to use. Once they've picked the items we update the picking list journal. We would like to expense the cost associate with the raw goods we're consuming at the time of picking and then place the finish good into inventory with no financial cost. The raw goods are bolts of fabric that have an item model group of FIFO, we track all details down to dyelot, etc...

    Hi,

When you say picking, what are you exactly doing? What journal is filled / process recorded?

Can you also share details of the item you pick? What kind of item is that and how is it setup?

    Many thanks

    Ludwig
