Mass Modify GP naming convention with a 5 segment account number

Posted on by
My university uses a 5 segment account scheme. Segment 1 - Fund; Segment 2 - Location; Segment 3 - Project; Segment 4 - Object; Segment 5 - Function/Restriction. The account name is based on Segment 3 (Project) plus Segment 4 (Object).

Segment 1- Fund (a 2-digit account number and there are 19 Funds)
Segment 2- Location (a 2-digit account number and there are 15 locations)
Segment 3- Project (a six digit account number and there are over 2700 individual accounts)
Segment 4 - Object (a four digit number and there are over 900 individual object codes)
Segment 5 - Function/Restriction (a four digit number and there are 32 types)

We need to update the object code portion of our  investment funds (over 400 accounts). We only use 2 of our account segments to name the accounts - Segment 3- Project and Segment 4- Object.  However, using mass modify would change the naming convention for to 5 segments, truncating the names separated be dashes.

Example:
Account =13-31-310001-1302-3502
Account name = Endowment General - Investments WF

13 = location (city name)
31 = fund
310001 = Endowment General
1302 = Investments
3502 = Scholarships/Fellowship Permanently Restricted

We do not need ALL 5 segments in the naming convention, only the Project/object combination. So the new name of the example would be : Endowment General - Investment

That's all background information.  My question is: Is there a way to mass modify the account names using only the 2 designated segments?
