Account Structure - Financial Dimension

Hi,

I have one company and 2 financial dimensions- Area and Worker in my accounting structure.

I am trying to create a link between both my financial dimensions in such a way that whenever user selects Area dimensions only the specific worker dimensions appear to him or allow him to select relevant workers only.

Both these dimensions are custom dimension.

The financial dimension values for worker and area keep on changing during a year.

If I try to fix this setup on account structure then I will have to keep on changing accounting structure every time a new worker is added. Additionally, account structure will also become too big.

We have around 41 areas and 500 worker financial dimension values.

I want to know whether there is any setup in AX 2012 R3 which I can use ? or did I need to go for customization only ?

Thanks in advance for your contributions

    Hi ankag,

If you continue using the worker findim then you will always run into the issue that you have to update your account structure once new workers arrive.

Can't you realize the setup by moving one level up?

That is by grouping your employees and rather use a custom 'worker group' findim?

Once a new employee arrives, you assign him this worker group fin dim and things should be fine.

What do you think about this approach?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

I had discussed this with the management earlier but they are not agreeing to it. They want some reports based on workers.

So, is there any functionality which I can use to relate 2 financial dimensions as I don't want to have this accounting structure setup.

If there is no such functionality then I am thinking of going with customisation.

    Hello ankag,

In D365FO we got a new functionality that allows linking findims.

This feature is, however, not available in AX2012 and if your management insists on that you will end up with a customization.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
