Changing assembly name for custom workflow actions

Is there any way to change the assembly name for custom workflow actions without having to redo all workflows that reference it?  I tried just changing the name and updating the registration, and it says there's an error when checking to see if it already exists.  Presumably I could get around this by just removing the current one and adding it again after changing, but then that's where I'd have to fix every workflow that references it.

    Sigh.  One of these days I'll ask a "how can we do this" question on here where the answer isn't "we can't"...promise!  :-D

    Allison,

    That is correct. For the assembly itself the name is not editable. The only thing that is editable is the description.

    For each individual Workflow activities, you can change the Name, Display Name, Description and Workflow Activity Group Name.

    That has not really changed as long as I can remember.

    I think your initial assessment on this is correct, and that in order to change the name for the entire assembly you would have to reattach all the Workflow activities.

    As usual, we wish we could do that...

    Hi Ravi;

    That link shows how to change the name of an individual workflow activity.  I'd like to change the name of the whole assembly (that contains multiple workflow activities).  I can see the name field for the assembly in the Plugin Registration Tool, but it's not editable.  And changing it in Visual Studio gives the error I describe in the OP.

    Hi Allison,

    If you want to change the display name of the assembly so that it appears in the workflow editor without the guid's and the actual assembly name then you can change the it under properties.

    Check this link. Though it is from old PLT but the concept is same-

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg328515.aspx

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Allison,

    I don't think there is a way to do this, without redoing the references.
