Hello,
I am using GP 2010 with SQL Server 2008 R2. I have created a smartlist to include 2 tables, Payroll Master and Payroll Deduction Master linked by Employee ID. In Smartlist Builder, for the Display column all checkboxes are marked and for the default column I have 3 columns selected from the Payroll Master Table and 5 columns selected from the Payroll Deduction Master Table. So far so good, the Smartlist works as expected. The problem occurs when a user wants to add an additional column to the smartlist and save it as a favorite. the only columns that are available are the default columns. The only way I can get all the columns available to the user is to go back into the Smartlist I created and mark all the checkboxes under the Default column and save the Smartlist, then open the smartlist and click Yes to the dialog "SmarList builder has detected changes to be made. Do you want to make these changes now?" After that I can go back into smartlist builder and deselect all the checkboxes under the default column and reselect only the columns I need. Now all the columns will be available to the user when they need to add an additional column. I have never had to do this in GP 10.0. My question is.... what am I missing when creating a new smartlist in GP 2010? Why aren't any of the columns available when trying to add a new column? Thank you in advance.

I am so glad that I found this. This issue has been driving me INSANE. There is really not enough information available about smartlist builder and the issues that it has and the weird, unexplainable quirks.
Kyle (and everyone else who has posted here as well),
This issue is actuallly a Problem Report that was written up last year. I am not sure which exact build on Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 broke it, but on Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010, Service Pack 2 was the culprit. It is set to be fixed in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 SP3 when that releases.

From some brief testing I just did it looks like this is happening only for new SmartLists. I am testing with GP 2010 R2 (GP build 11.00.1752) and SQL 2008 R2 SP 1 (SQL build 10.50.2500). All my existing SmartLists are based on SQL tables/views, and I am able to add additional columns that are not defaulted in the SmartList Builder setup. (These existed prior to an upgrade from GP 9.0 to GP 2010.)
However, I tested creating a new SmartList based on a SQL view and another based one on a GP table, and they both have the same issue reported above. Not only that, but for one of the SmartList I created, when I try to add columns in SmartList, I see a list of columns not found in the table I am pointing to whatsoever, however, no valid columns from the table that I am pointing to.
As Kyle described, going back to SmartList Builder, marking all the columns to default, going back into SmartList to have it update, then again deselecting the columns in SLB fixes the issue.
Add me to the list of "glad I'm not the only one". : )
Hello!
Kyle I was relieved to read your post and know that it was not just me!
I am using GP2010 R2 on the same platform and have created a SmartList using SmartList Bulider (SLB) with Payables Management tables. I thought at first it was maybe the tables I was trying to use - transaction distribution ones - but when I did a test with the PM Vendor Master - the result was the same. Only the default columns show up and no additional columns are available to choose in the SmartList window. If, however, in SLB I choose all columns to default - launch Smartlist and accept the changes - then go back to SLB to select only a few default columns, back in SmartList all columns are available to add. At least the work-around works.
It is very odd.

Hi Kyle,
Thanks for your post.
This doesn't sound right. Does this occur on other reports for you or just this one report? Also, is this issue specific to just Payroll tables or does it happen for tables in other modules, like Payables Management, Receivables, 3rd party tables? On this specific Smartlist, are you using GP tables or SQL tables? Please let me know.
Thanks,
Brian Wick
