What is the make use of menu 'Journalizing

Dear all,

I can't found any manual that describe the purpose of menu ' GL/Periodic/Journalizing/Jounrnalizing '

The reason is before we run the year closed we need to change the status of such period to 'CLOSED' how ever system populate error which mention something about journallizing therefore i think it's must to do something with this menu but i just not sure what will be the impact

can anyone help

    Hi, try using the help menu and searching for Journalize transactions.  Below is what you get.

     

     

    > > >

    Journalize ledger transactions by entering them into with a record of date, time, ledger accounts affected, debit and credit amounts. From , view and print journal lists.

    NoteNote

    If the selection in in has been changed, a confirmation dialog must be accepted to continue journalizing with the new setting.

    however i have doubt of what is the impact of doing journalizing meaning are there any GL entry for this functional. The reason is I did change the period in UAT environment but i got no error message but once i try to do in Live environment i found the error message as i mentioned therefore i'm not confident to do the journalizing in the Live environment because I don't know what is the process behind this functional

    can anybody help on this please

     The reason that system populate error message while I try to change the period to CLOSED because of there is a TICK at the paramete 'Check Journalizing'. I just take it out and i'm able to change period to CLOSED

    However by reading the describe below i still don't know of when we need to tick this parameters , who has experience to share , please help

     

    Select this check box to verify whether periods are journalized before they are stopped or closed. The verification is performed in the form when the field is changed to or .

    Journalizing is a country specific feature which is designed for extra reporting and numbering of transactions. It's a process which you run in periodic which prints a transaction report and then goes back and specifies the line number that each one is printed on in this report. It actually populates 2 fields on the ledger transaction table called journalizing journal number and journalizing journal sequence number. Its typically used in countries who need to keep physically printed reports and this helps them find the transaction in the printed report. 

    If you're not in a country who needs journalizing then you can turn it off in parameters or you can also turn it off in the configuration keys. Admin - setup - system - configuration keys - general ledger - journalizing. However you should of course test this before turning it off in your live application.

    Hi,

    Transactions are usually recorded in a journal at least once a month. Each transaction is marked with the number of the journal it was recorded in, as well as the line number.

    Basically some countries require hard copy listings and in that case. this process makes it easier to find a particular entry in the report.
