Work type costs for a resource

Hi

I am new to projects, and cannot get my head around this. I noticed that there is a RESOURCE COSTS option but this seems to have been discontinued and perhaps replaced with another feature.

Can someone advice how to achieve this.

Customer has Resources (which will have a base Unit Cost)
They use Worktypes to identify the type of work (in their current system it is called a labour code and this code actually defines the cost. In their case this work type determines the cost to the job / project ie Day rate, night shift rate etc.

Is there a place to define these set cost rates to use in BC.

I can see that I can link a Unit of measure to the employee, but there rates wont necessarily be a factor of the base rate.

I found this article, but Resource costs is no longer an option:

Thank you all, the Purchase project price lists works a charm.

Maybe this will help clear things up.

You're on the right track — in Business Central, Work Type Codes are still the way to define variable costs for a resource based on the type of work (e.g., day shift, night shift, etc.).

    Here’s how to do it:

    1. Set up Work Type Codes

Go to Work Type Codes page.

Define each type (e.g., DAY, NIGHT) and assign cost and price per unit.

    2. Assign Work Type to Resource Usage

When posting job planning lines or job journal lines, select the appropriate Work Type Code.

BC will override the resource's base cost with the cost defined in the Work Type.

    3. Use in Jobs

For each job line, the Work Type drives the cost and price used for posting to the job.

    > Note: The old “Resource Costs” page is no longer needed — it's now controlled via Work Type Codes and how they are applied during job usage.

So yes, you can manage different labor rates using this feature without changing the base rate of the resource.

    Hi Sagar

Ok. I thought purchase prices would only relate to purchasing the resource. So is this for Internal costs as well then?

    Hi,

Removed Resource Costs with "Purchase price List" as a part of implementing new price/cost calculation functionality. Follow below step to setup resource costs in new functionality.

    1. Enable New sales price Feature in feature management.

    2. Go resource card>Purchase prices

    3. Define RESOURCE COSTS and verify lines

Please mark it verified if solved your issue

    Thanks Gerardo

I understand the price lists, but I still cannot see where I can add a cost factor based on a resource and a work type.

I want to be able to have a resource that can perform certain work types and each work type has its own Cost. Not using the cost on the resource.
