Manufacturing Orders for Services

Posted on by 160

In Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0, I would like to make Manufacturing orders for services.  Here’s the scenario:

When we get a piece of equipment in from a customer, we will perform an inspection of the equipment and give a quote for repair based on that inspection.

We need a Manufacturing Order to give out in the shop for the guys so they know what they are inspecting and for management to know how many pieces of equipment we have and are quoting at one time.

I will gladly expand on this as needed.

Thanks!

Yeah, thats pretty much what were are doing now, that main thing I don't like about it is that doing it that way GP will consider repairs as inventoried items, which they are not.  But I guess for $9000 I could get over it.  Thanks again for all your help!

Wow, $9k - that's pretty steep!  Are you using manufacturing now?  If it were me, I'd look at using the MOP-SOP link to apply manufacturing orders to Customer Orders.  If you're not using MFG now, the setup for MFG is more involved than setup for Depot Management but I think you can get similar functionality using the MOP-SOP link.  Also investigate the 'Quick MO' for creating a simplified Manufacturing Order.  You can also read more about this in the Printable Manuals.

     Hope this helps,

Well I contacted my partner about it, because we do have the manufacutring but not the field service, and its going to cost us about $9000 to get it, so I am guess that is off the table for at the moment, so you have any suggestions for a good work around?  By the way, thanks for your help so far!

In essence, Depot Management is a work order system for managing a repair depot.  Refer to Printable Manuals in GP (Help>Printable Manuals>Field Service>Depot Management) for a detailed description of the module and how work orders are created and processed.

    Hope this helps,

Yes, we do have Manufacturing registered, but I have never heard of Depot Management.  Could you explain this a little more?

    jenhil,

You might find it easier to use Depot Management, which is designed specifically for this type of activity.  I assume you already have Manufacturing registered and want to try to use it?
